Ronaldo leads Portugal to victory with historic feat
Portugal have officially opened their win counter in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with their first win.
The European team faced the Asian squad in the Group K match held on June 23 in the Houston Stadium.
Within the first six minutes of the match, the 41-year-old legend scored a goal.
The goal made Ronaldo the first and only player to have scored in six consecutive World Cups.
The Portuguese legend began his World Cup journey in 2006 and since has played every tournament scoring atleast one goal in every event.
The second goal by the footballer came just before the half time which made him Portugal’s all-time leading scorer.
The Ronaldo-led side beat Uzbekistan by a scathing 5-0.
The other goals were scored by Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leão. Meanwhile, Uzbek goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov aided in an own goal.
Portugal’s opening match against DR Congo was a letdown as the team only managed to draw the match.
Their next match is against Colombia on June 28.
