Atlético Madrid threatens FIFA complaint as Barcelona chase Julián Álvarez
The growing transfer battle over Julián Álvarez has taken a dramatic turn, with Atlético Madrid reportedly preparing to file a complaint against Barcelona to FIFA over the club’s pursuit of the Argentine forward.
The latest development comes just days after Álvarez publicly expressed his desire to leave Atlético Madrid and complete what he described as his dream move. The striker has already informed the club of his intention to seek a transfer, with Barcelona widely reported to be his preferred destination.
According to statements attributed to Atlético Madrid and reported by Spanish media outlet Diario AS, the club believes Barcelona have been negotiating with a player who remains under contract.
“The plan is to file a complaint against Barça to FIFA as they’re negotiating with a player who is under contract,” Atlético reportedly stated.
The Madrid-based club did not stop there. Atlético also launched a strong criticism of Barcelona’s conduct, accusing the Catalan giants of repeatedly attempting to influence contracted players.
Reports suggest Atlético officials are frustrated by the ongoing situation and are considering formal action if they believe transfer regulations have been breached.
The tension has increased significantly following Álvarez’s public comments about wanting to leave and join a new club. Barcelona are believed to have a strong interest in signing the 25-year-old striker, while reports have claimed that personal terms between the player and the Spanish champions are already in place.
However, any transfer remains far from complete. Atlético Madrid continue to hold the player’s contract and have shown no indication that they are willing to make negotiations easy.
