Former captain of Indian women’s hockey team Savita Punia was also honored with Padma Shri.
Padma Awards 2026, New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu organized the second phase of Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. On this occasion, 65 prominent personalities of the country were honored. Former Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma was awarded Padma Shri and famous tennis player Vijay Amritraj was awarded Padma Bhushan.

Apart from this, former Indian women’s hockey team captain Savita Punia was also awarded the Padma Shri award. Recently, Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also honored with the same award. Madhya Pradesh’s folk artist Bhagwandas Raikwar was posthumously awarded the Padma Shri award.
Former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for public service and Malayalam journalist P Narayanan for his contribution to literature at the ceremony. Singer Alka Yagnik, actor Mammootty, famous oncologist Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori working in America and Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj were also present in this program. 2 Padma Vibhushan, 7 Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri awards were distributed in the presence of PM Narendra Modi in the Republic Pavilion of Rashtrapati Bhavan. This year some awards have also been given jointly.
Achievements of Rohit Sharma
Under the captaincy of Rohit, India won the T-20 World Cup and Champions Trophy.
One of the successful captains of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma was awarded the Padma Shri for his unique contribution to the field of sports. Under his captaincy, India won the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025 titles. Last year, he also made significant contributions to the team by performing brilliantly in ODI cricket.
