What caused the battle of Karbala?

The battle of Karbala took place because of the conscience of Imam Hussain, he refused to bow before a cruel Caliph. Imam Hussain came to the battlefield to protect the people and eliminate injustice. However, even today people’s eyes fill with tears remembering what happened in the battle of Karbala.

War started to end injustice

About 1346 years ago, in Islam, any person became the Caliph after everyone’s consent, whereas a ruler named Muawiya changed this tradition with his conspiracy and made his son Yazid the new Caliph. Yazid’s thoughts and behavior were completely different. He did not follow the teachings and teachings of religion. He did not behave well with people and also used to get people to agree to his demands by threatening them.

 

After becoming Caliph, Yazid forgot to differentiate between right and wrong. He considered the people around him as slaves. He wanted to use his power to force Imam Hussain to follow his rules and regulations, whereas Imam Hussain showed bravery and refused to follow Yazid’s rules. After which the Imam left Iraq and went to live at another place.

Imam was betrayed

When Imam Hussain had gone to another city, some people sent him a letter from Kufa city of Iraq. Through the letter, the people of Kufa had called him to save them from the tyranny of Yazid. After this, Imam along with his 72 companions was going towards Kufa city of Iraq. Then in Karbala, Yazid’s army closed the water of Euphrates River for the Imam’s family and innocent children. Due to which people started suffering from thirst in the desert of Karbala. After this, 72 companions of Imam Hussain fought a battle in front of Yazid’s huge army. On the 10th day of this war, 72 people including Imam Hussain were martyred.
