Shubman Gill surges past Virat Kohli to seize No. 2 spot in ICC ODI Rankings

The 26-year-old Shubman Gill is ranked number two in the latest ICC ODI ratings. India’s ODI skipper scored 84 not out and 154 in the recent series against Afghanistan. It was also his first series sweep as the captain of the Indian ODI side. Men in Blue next play England in a three-match series which begins on 14th July.

New Zealand star Daryl Mitchell leads the list with 815 points, followed by Shubman, who has 791 points. The right-handed batter was earlier placed at number four in the points table. Former Indian captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are placed at number three and four, respectively, as per the latest rankings.

Kohli, who didn’t play against Afghanistan, has 768 points while Rohit has 754 points. RCB’s batting star has played three ODI matches this season and scored 240 runs with one century. Sharma, on the other hand, ended the Afghan series with 143 runs from three games with a best of 79.

Ibrahim Zadran is placed fifth with 712 points, while former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is sixth with 689 points. Other Indian batters in the list are KL Rahul at number 11 and Shreyas Iyer at 14th with 651 and 638 batting points respectively. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan has gained 21 places to be ranked at 43 with a total of 516 points.

Matt Henry draws level with Jasprit Bumrah as the top Test bowler

New Zealand’s veteran seamer Matt Henry has become the joint top bowler in the Test format after his 11-wicket haul against England recently. Henry joins jasprit bumrah at the top with both bowlers tied at 870 points.

Australian stars Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are third and fourth, having dropped down a place. South African pacer Marco Jansen is fifth in the points table, followed by Scott Boland.

Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj are tied at 14th place with 695 points, while veteran star Ravindra Jadeja is 17th in the list with 691 points.

In the T20I format, Abhishek Sharma continues to lead the rankings with Ishan at number two. Tilak Varma is sixth in the rankings while former skipper Suryakumar Yadav is seventh.
