Major negligence or technical mistake? Plane left for Amritsar from Delhi, got lost and reached Pakistan

A very sensitive and serious incident happened in the sky on Monday night with Air India flight AI-479 flying from Delhi to Amritsar. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft suffered a serious technical fault and its navigation system completely broke down. Due to this, the plane deviated from its planned route and directly entered the restricted airspace of neighboring country Pakistan. It is being told that the pilot realized this huge mistake only after receiving immediate warning from Pakistan Air Traffic Authority, after which the plane immediately took a U-turn in the sky and turned back towards the Indian airspace.

Pak airspace is completely banned for India from April 2025
This incident is not just a simple incident, as diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan are already at their peak. Pakistan Airports Authority has completely closed its airspace to all commercial and military aircraft with Indian registration since April 2025, which has recently been extended till July 24, 2026 through a new NOTAM. According to Amritsar Airport sources, despite being a restricted area, this Air India plane had entered more than one and a half miles inside the Pakistan border due to a technical glitch, which created panic in the security departments of both the countries.

4 hour delay and emergency landing in Delhi
This plane, which took off from Delhi at 9:18 pm on Monday night, was to land in Amritsar at 10:30 pm. The plane’s troubles did not subside even after taking a U-turn from the Pakistani border and returning to Indian airspace. Due to heavy traffic at Amritsar airport at that time, the plane was not allowed to land immediately. After circling in the skies of Amritsar for a long time, it was diverted back to Delhi on the instructions of the control room, where it made a safe landing. After waiting for about two hours and technical improvements, the plane again took off for Amritsar and finally at around 2:20 in the night the passengers could reach Amritsar safely. Due to this entire incident, passengers had to face a huge delay of about four hours. At present, aviation regulatory bodies are investigating the real reasons for this serious navigation failure.
