Mumbai Mayor was telling about BMC’s planning, then employee fell into open sewer, video surfaced

Monsoon has finally arrived in the country’s financial capital Mumbai, but the rains that bring relief have created new challenges for the city. Monsoon, which arrived almost two weeks behind schedule, tested Mumbai’s preparations on the very first day. Due to continuous heavy rains, incidents of waterlogging, long traffic jams and accidents occurred in many areas, due to which normal life was badly affected.

Shocking accident happened during inspection

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde was inspecting various areas on Wednesday morning to take stock of the situation after the rains. During this time, an accident occurred in front of him which raised serious questions on the preparations of the administration. During inspection, a person fell into an open manhole. The incident happened suddenly, due to which even the officers and employees present at the spot were surprised.

Later it was revealed that the person who fell into the manhole was a sanitation worker of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The video of this incident quickly went viral on social media and people expressed their displeasure over the city’s arrangements.

Mayor reprimanded the officials

Angered by the incident, Mayor Ritu Tawde gave a strict warning to the officials present at the spot. He clearly said that if an open manhole is found in any area in future, immediate action will be taken against the concerned ward officer. The Mayor instructed the officials to ensure complete adherence to safety standards during the rainy season.

However, the Mayor also said that the cover of the concerned manhole was removed to take out the garbage from the drains and sewer lines. According to him, warning boards and barricades were also installed there. He appealed to the citizens to follow the safety signs and instructions imposed by the administration.

Political rhetoric started on rain

The situation arising after the rains in Mumbai has also heated up the political atmosphere. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray has raised questions on the functioning of the state government and BMC administration. He alleged that necessary steps were not taken to strengthen the basic drainage system of the city.

Aditya Thackeray says that in a maritime city like Mumbai, expansion of modern drainage systems, pumping stations and rain water harvesting structures is very important. He claimed that the current administration did not give adequate priority to many schemes started during the previous government.

Responsibility increased with monsoon

This onset of monsoon in Mumbai clearly indicates that the administration needs to be more cautious in the coming days. Only effective management can provide relief to the city residents to deal with problems like waterlogging, open manholes and traffic obstructions. At present, the first rain has exposed the reality of the preparations and has raised many important questions before the administration.
