Gold Ring Scheme: Special gift will be given on the birth of a child, government will play the role of ‘uncle’
Tamil Nadu government has announced a unique scheme (Gold Ring Scheme) for newborn babies and their families. Under this scheme, a special gift will be given to children born in government hospitals. The government says that this initiative is not only about financial assistance but also about a cultural tradition and social message.

Under the new scheme of Tamil Nadu government, every newborn baby born in government hospitals will be given a gold ring weighing one gram. According to the current market price, the price of this ring is estimated to be around Rs 13 thousand 600.
Formal launch will take place from 15th September
The government has announced that the scheme will be formally launched on September 15. This day was marked by former Chief Minister C.N. Also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Annadurai. However, the scheme will be considered effective from June 22.
Special management unit will be formed for the scheme
A project and program management unit will be constituted at the state level for the successful operation of the scheme. This unit will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, delivery process and administrative coordination of the scheme.
Initiative related to cultural tradition
The government has linked this scheme to the local tradition ‘Thaimaman Seer’ (Gold Ring Scheme), in which a gift is given to the newborn baby from the maternal uncle. According to the government order, through this scheme the state government will welcome every newborn by playing the role of maternal uncle.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had promised before the assembly elections that children born in the state would be gifted a gold ring by the government. Now the government has taken formal steps towards implementing this promise.
Hundreds of crores will be spent every year
According to government estimates, approximately Rs 755.83 crore will be spent annually on the operation of this scheme. The government believes that this scheme will help in respecting motherhood, welcoming the new born and strengthening the sense of social security (Gold Ring Scheme).
