Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi meets PM Modi, emphasizes on increasing trust and cooperation in India-China relations
New Delhi. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed his commitment to strengthen India-China relations and implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries. He said that China is ready to work with India to enhance mutual trust, remove misunderstandings and give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Wang Yi said the two countries should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation while handling sensitive issues intelligently. He stressed that while pursuing their respective modernization goals, India and China can also promote unity and self-reliance among the countries of the Global South.
Sharing information about the meeting on the social media platform ‘X’, Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said that Wang Yi described India and China as the two largest developing countries in the world and important members of the Global South. He said that both the countries can play a leading role in promoting cooperation and self-reliance among developing countries. Wang Yi also said China will continue to support India’s responsibilities as the rotating chair of BRICS and work with India to strengthen the organization’s cooperation.
Chinese Foreign Minister also met Ajit Doval
Earlier, Wang Yi also met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting. Both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and acknowledged that positive progress is being made towards normalization of relations. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
Wang Yi said that India and China should look at their relations not only from a bilateral perspective, but also from a long-term and global perspective. He stressed the need to put into practice the consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and pursue development and progress through cooperation.
During his conversation with Ajit Doval, Wang Yi said that China is ready to work with India for the development and expansion of BRICS. He also said that both the countries should respect each other’s core interests and the border dispute should not be allowed to impact broader bilateral relations.
