Big preparation by Central Government, new update is coming for ration card holders
New Delhi. A major change may be seen in the country’s Public Distribution System (PDS) in the coming times. The Central Government has prepared a proposal related to amendment in the National Food Security Act with the aim of further improving the ration system. In this proposal, there has been talk of change in the method of distribution of ration provided under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY).
In the current system, 35 kg of food grains are given every month to the eligible families of Antyodaya Anna Yojana. In this the number of family members is not taken into account. Now the government has proposed to make ration distribution individual based.
Ration will be available per person
According to the proposed change, arrangements can be made to provide 7 kg of food grains every month to each member of the eligible family. However, it is proposed to limit the total ration received by the family to 35 kg only. The government believes that with the implementation of the new system there will be more equality in ration distribution. Currently, there is a difference in the amount of food grains available per person in small and big families. With the new rule, ration will be decided according to the number of family members.
Needy families can get benefits
The new system is expected to benefit the most those families which have more number of members and which are dependent on the food security scheme. The government says the purpose of the change is to ensure that every eligible person can get food grains as per his need. Along with this, emphasis is also being laid on making the ration distribution system more transparent and effective.
The central government sought public opinion on this proposal.
The Central Government has sought suggestions from the common people, experts and concerned parties regarding this proposed amendment. People can present their objections and suggestions before the government within the stipulated time limit. Necessary changes can be made in the proposal based on the suggestions received. After this, the new rules will come into effect only after the further process is completed.
