Two powerful earthquakes occurred in Venezuela on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning Indian time, causing chaos in the entire country. In fact, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the first earthquake was of 7.2 magnitude, while a few seconds later a second tremor of 7.5 magnitude was felt. After both earthquakes, people had to move out of their homes and buildings in many areas including the capital Caracas.

In fact, according to USGS, the first earthquake occurred about 160 kilometers west of Caracas at a depth of 13 kilometers. Shortly thereafter, a second and more powerful earthquake was recorded in the southwest area of ​​Moron city at a depth of 10 kilometers. According to local media reports, a portion of the roof of Caracas Airport collapsed, while cracks and structural damage were reported in many buildings and houses.

National emergency declared after earthquake in Venezuela

Following the earthquake, the Venezuelan government has declared a national emergency across the country. President Delsey Rodriguez has instructed relief and rescue agencies to be immediately activated. The government has decided to keep Myketiya International Airport closed until further notice. Flight operations have been affected due to damage caused to the airport premises.

Meanwhile, after Venezuela, an earthquake of 6.9 magnitude was also recorded in Japan. According to American agencies, its center was in the north-east area of ​​Kuji city. Initial reports have not revealed any major damage or loss of life. Some bullet train services in Japan were temporarily stopped as a precaution. The US Tsunami Warning Center later clarified that there is no tsunami threat to Venezuela and surrounding coastal areas.
