Hope of relief for air passengers, flight tickets may soon become cheaper, government indicated
Tezzbuzz Desk-There may be a big relief for those traveling by air in the coming times. The central government has indicated that if the prices of crude oil and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) remain stable for a long time, then there may be a decline in the prices of flight tickets.
Government’s eye on reduction in fares
Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said that the government is continuously monitoring the fuel prices and talks are also going on with the airlines on this issue. He says that there has been some decline in ATF prices recently, but it is important to ensure that this stability remains for a long time.
The government believes that if fuel prices remain stable, relief can be given to passengers by reviewing the increased fares and additional charges from the airlines.
Why did the air fares increase?
The cost pressure on the aviation sector had increased significantly in the last few months. Due to fluctuating fuel prices, airlines had imposed additional charges and higher fares on many routes.
The government is now assessing how the benefits of recent cost relief can be passed on directly to passengers.
ATF prices are reviewed every 15 days.
The government reviews Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices every 15 days based on global crude oil prices.
ATF forms a major part of the total operating costs of airlines, so changes in its prices have a direct impact on air tickets.
Airlines are getting government support
Amidst global tensions and economic uncertainties, the government has also given many types of relief to the aviation sector. This includes steps like control on ATF prices for domestic airlines, relief in airport charges, financial assistance under the Emergency Credit Linkage Scheme.
When can passengers get relief?
The government says that as soon as there are signs of permanent stability in fuel prices, steps will be taken to reduce fares in discussion with airlines. Passengers can get its direct benefit in the form of cheaper air travel.
If crude oil and ATF prices remain stable for a long time, air travel may become cheaper in the times to come. Due to the ongoing talks between the government and the airlines, passengers are expected to get relief soon.
