Iran’s drone attack on Bahrain, Saudi Arabia strongly condemned, said it was a major violation of sovereignty
Iran has attacked Bahrain’s soil with drones. After this attack, Saudi Arabia has expressed strong displeasure and called it a major violation of international rules. The Saudi Foreign Ministry clearly said that such attacks threaten the peace and security of the region.
Reason and events of the attack
On the morning of 27 June 2026, Iran targeted the territory of Bahrain. This attack happened when America carried out air strikes on Iran on June 26. America took this action because Iran attacked a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that its drones targeted US military posts in the Gulf country.
The special thing is that ‘Islamabad Agreement’ was signed between Tehran and Washington on 18 June 2026. The purpose of this agreement was to stop military operations and respect each other’s sovereignty. But after this attack, both America and Iran have accused each other of breaking this agreement.
Bahrain and other countries’ response
Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry described the incident as a violation of its national sovereignty. The ministry said that this attack is a major threat to the security of civilians and residents. Bahrain cited UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) and said that they have the full right to protect themselves.
- Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Foreign Ministry described it as a ‘brutal attack’ and said it was against international law and the UN Charter.
- Regional Support: The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Egypt also expressed their support for Bahrain and condemned Iran’s attacks.
Earlier on June 3 and 4, 2026, Iran had also carried out drone and missile attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. Saudi Arabia also condemned these attacks on June 6, 10 and 11. The Saudi Foreign Ministry has appealed to all countries to resolve the dispute through dialogue so that peace can be maintained in the region.
human rights organization report
Amnesty International released a research report on 18 June. This report said that civilians were killed in Iranian drone attacks in many Gulf countries including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. According to the report, this is a violation of international humanitarian law and can be considered ‘war crimes’.
