Through this series, Shreyas Iyer will take over the responsibility of captaining Team India in T20. Shreyas will captain for the first time in T20 International. Just before his captaincy debut, Shreyas Iyer has updated his Instagram bio, seeing which the fans were surprised as to what it means after all. Actually, Iyer has written 25/12/2025 as second DOB in his bio. Now cricket fans are very curious to know what is the story behind this date and why Iyer has written this just before the start of the series.

Shreyas Iyer was seriously injured during the Australia tour

Shreyas Iyer was seriously injured during the third ODI match played in Sydney during the Australia tour last year i.e. in October 2025. While taking a catch in the match, he suffered an internal injury in the lower part of his abdominal ribs, due to which there was a cut in his spleen and he started bleeding internally. Iyer had to be immediately taken to the hospital and was admitted to the ICU, where he also underwent a surgery. This injury was so serious that fans started wondering whether Iyer would ever be able to play cricket again or not. Due to this injury, Iyer remained away from the field for some time, but after this he made a brilliant comeback on the field and again made a place in Team India. This return of Iyer became a big inspiration for all the youth. Iyer is now ready to captain.

What is the meaning of Shreyas Iyer’s second DOB?

Now this second date of birth (DOB) of Shreyas Iyer on Instagram is being interpreted on social media to mean that 25 December 2025 was the same day when Iyer picked up the bat for the first time after recovering from a serious injury. Fans believe that this was the beginning of his second life, and perhaps that is why he has written this date in his Insta bio.

Shreyas Iyer’s performance in the ODI series against Afghanistan

Shreyas Iyer was recently a part of Team India in the 3 ODI series played against Afghanistan. However, Iyer’s bat remained silent in these three matches. Iyer did not score a single half-century in the entire series. Earlier in IPL 2026, Shreyas Iyer had batted amazingly. While playing for Punjab Kings, Iyer had scored around 500 runs in 14 matches. Iyer’s performance in T20 cricket in recent times has been excellent. Considering his performance, BCCI has made him T20 captain. After Ireland, Iyer will captain Team India on the England tour. A long series of 5 T20 matches will be played on the Indian team tour of England. This series will start from July 1. Now it will be interesting to see how Team India performs under the captaincy of Iyer on the tour of Ireland and England.
