Kolkata: On Tuesday, a major accident occurred in an under-construction warehouse in Taratala area of ​​Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, when its roof and supporting iron structure suddenly collapsed. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in the accident, while many other workers have been injured. Officials fear that a large number of people may still be trapped under the debris, due to which the rescue operation is continuing.

According to the information, construction work of a warehouse associated with the transport department was going on. In the morning the workers were busy working normally. According to eyewitnesses, some time before the accident, an iron beam used in the structure of the warehouse had slipped from its place and was damaged in several parts. Laborers and technical staff were trying to handle it and stabilize the structure. Meanwhile, the entire tin shed and iron structure suddenly collapsed with a loud noise.

There was chaos in the area immediately after the accident. People present nearby immediately started relief work and informed the administration. Within a short time, personnel of police, fire department, disaster management teams and other rescue agencies reached the spot. The injured laborers were immediately sent to the hospital, where the condition of many people is said to be critical.

40 to 45 people feared buried under debris

Rescue teams are trying to reach the people trapped in the debris with the help of gas cutters and other heavy equipment. The work of removing huge iron beams and tin sheets is continuing. According to officials, about 40 to 45 people are feared to be buried under the debris. However, the actual number will be known only after the rescue operations are completed.

Eyewitnesses said that a large number of workers were present in the warehouse premises at the time of the accident. A temporary office was also created in the premises, where some employees were looking after the work. Due to the sudden collapse of the entire structure, the people present there did not even get a chance to recover.
