Rishabh Pant lost Rs 12 crore, who else has suffered such a huge loss in IPL?
Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, will now play for Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 15 crore. Pant has returned to DC. He was associated with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the last two seasons. LSG had bid Rs 27 crore for this wicketkeeper batsman in the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was also given the command of the team but he failed on both the batting and captaincy fronts.
He left the captaincy of LSG after this year’s IPL. Now the franchise has traded him with DC. Kuldeep Yadav has moved from DC to LSG, while Pant has returned home. Kuldeep joined LSG for his current fee of Rs 13.5 crore. Pant has suffered a loss of Rs 12 crore. Venkatesh Iyer
Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was given Rs 23.5 crore by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL 2025 season. However, KKR released him the very next season. Venkatesh had to go to the auction, where Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) included him in their team for Rs 7 crore. He suffered a loss of Rs 16.5 crore. RCB did not field Venkatesh in the initial matches this season but after the injuries to Phil Salt and Jacob Bethel, he got continuous opportunities and he played an important role in the team’s victory by scoring 209 runs in 6 innings at a strike rate of 186.60.
Sam Curran
England all-rounder Sam Curran was sold for Rs 18.5 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. Punjab Kings (PBKS) had made a record bid for him. He played for PBKS for such a big price in the 2023 and 2024 seasons but his performance was nothing special. The franchise released him. After this, he got a bid of only Rs 2.3 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. He joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with a loss of Rs 16.2 crore.

kyle jameson
Kiwi all-rounder Kyle Jamieson was bought by RCB for Rs 15 crore in the IPL 2021 auction. That season he could take only 9 wickets in 9 matches. Only 65 runs came from his bat. Jamieson had withdrawn his name from the 2022 season. After this RCB released him. He entered the auction in the 2023 season but only Rs 1 crore was bid for him. CSK bought Jamieson at his base price. He lost Rs 14 crore.
Mitchell Starc
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc was included in their team by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Starc also made KKR champion after 10 years by bowling brilliantly in the playoffs but the franchise released him in the very next season. Starc entered the 2025 auction, where DC bought him for Rs 11.75 crore. Starc had to suffer a loss of Rs 13 crore.
jhay richardson
Australian fast bowler Jhay Richardson was sold for Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2021 auction. PBKS included him in their team by making a big bid but he could play only 3 matches in the Covid-affected season. He withdrew his name from the second half of the season in September. In such a situation, PBKS did not release him. After this, when he came to auction, he did not find any buyer. In the 2023 auction, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.5 crore. Richardson was sold at the base price only and suffered a loss of Rs 12.5 crore.
