Data Security Boost: Now your data will not go out of India, Telecom Rules changed, License Raj ended…
Business Desk – Data Security Boost: The central government has announced major changes for the telecom sector. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued new rules and made it clear that now call, internet and other telecom data of Indian users will not be stored outside the country. Along with this, the decades old licensing system has been abolished and a new digital approval system has been implemented.
- Users’ data will be stored in India only
Under the new rules, telecom companies will have to keep the data, call records and network logs of Indian customers within the country. Companies will not be able to share this information with any foreign organization without permission.
Benefit: This will strengthen the privacy and cyber security of the users and reduce the risk of data leakage.
- License rule ended in telecom sector
The government has abolished the old and complex licensing process for companies. Now companies will be able to take approval online through the new Telecom e-Services Portal.
Advantage: The approval process will be faster, paperwork will be less and new services can be started faster.
- Old companies will also get relief
Companies which already have licenses for internet, calling or other services have also been given the option to come to the new authorization system.
Benefit: Administrative burden of companies will be reduced and operations will become easier.
- Hope to get cheaper and better plans
In the new system, applications for network and internet services can be made from a single portal. This can reduce the costs of companies.
Benefit: Competition will increase in the market and customers are likely to get better calling and data plans.
- Strict rules on companies like Starlink
The government has also set strict rules for companies providing satellite internet services. The main gateway station of such companies will have to be established in India only.
Benefit: National security will be strengthened and the data of Indian users will remain under the control of the country.
- no compromise on security
Special security clearance will be required to install networks in sensitive areas like Jammu-Kashmir and North-East. Companies will also have to develop systems to monitor suspicious activities and fake messages.
Benefit: Will help in curbing cyber crimes, fraud calls and security related threats.
What will be the impact on common people?
Common mobile and internet users will get the biggest benefit from the new rules. Data security will be stronger, new services will be available quickly, business will be easier for companies and the chances of getting cheaper and better telecom plans will increase in future.
