Why Mitchel Musso skipped ‘Hannah Montana’ reunion: Truth revealed
Fans noticed Mitchel Musso was missing from the Hannah Montana 20th anniversary special, and the former Disney star has finally shared the reason behind his absence.
Speaking on the Joe Fox Podcast on June 24, the 34-year-old Disney alum revealed that he had been asked to be a part of the reunion but admitted, “But, it wasn’t presented correctly (to me).”
He was a key part of Hannah Montanastarring in over 70 episodes as Oliver Oken, one of Miley Stewart’s (Miley Cyrus) closest friends, with Emily Osment playing Lilly Truscott.
Mitchel told host Joe Vulpis that returning as Oliver would have meant a lot to him, revealing that he has largely stayed out of the public eye over the last 10 years. However, Disney chose to have a nostalgic look back at Hannah Montana for the anniversary special.
“I’ve been waiting ten years,” he remarked. “The people, they say, 20. My break’s been 10. It’s too long of a wait to do it in a way that isn’t even close to, in my opinion, correct.”
Premiering in March, the anniversary special brought the 33-year-old singer back to revisit iconic the memories from the fan favourite show, with Alex Cooper hosting the celebration alongside appearances from stars like Chappell Roan and Selena Gomez.
The actor opened up about wanting to reprise his iconic role, revealing that playing Oliver again in a new Hannah Montana episode would be something he’d be excited to do.
“I need a wig,” he playfully shared. “I’d want the hair, which is fine. I’ve worn (wigs) plenty of times on Disney. I’ve worn plenty of wigs. … I’d want to feel the part again. I’d want to put on that little polo again, and wear the … plaid shorts with the goofy shoes.”
Continuing, “I’d want to play the character, yeah. Once I saw myself doing it, I’d say, ‘Oh, there you are!’ Let’s get out there and let’s do it.”
Mitchel wasn’t the only familiar face missing from the Hannah Montana anniversary special, as Emily Osment, 34, was also unable to attend due to her filming commitments on the CBS sitcom Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
