West Indies batsmen created history, 401 runs partnership for the sixth wicket, a new record registered in the Test record book

Sports Desk. In the long history of Test cricket, two West Indies batsmen have achieved such a feat, which no other pair had been able to accomplish till now. West Indies captain Roston Chase and batsman Aamir Jungu made a new world record by batting brilliantly in the first Test match against Sri Lanka.

Both the batsmen together made a huge partnership of 401 runs for the sixth wicket, which has become the highest partnership for any wicket at sixth or below in the history of Test cricket. With this achievement he broke the old record of England’s Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow.

Old record broken after 10 years

Earlier, the record of the highest partnership for the sixth wicket was in the name of England’s Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow. Both the players had made a partnership of 399 runs in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 2016. This record remained intact for almost a decade, but now the pair of Roston Chase and Aamir Jangu have left it behind.

Captain missed double century

In the match, Aamir Jangu batted brilliantly and played a memorable inning of 233 runs. Whereas captain Roston Chase came very close to a double century and was out on 194 runs. However, by the time they were out, both the batsmen had put West Indies in a strong position. The special thing was that no other batsman of the team could reach half-century.

Second biggest partnership for West Indies

This partnership has also become the second highest partnership in the test history of West Indies. The record for the highest partnership for the Caribbean team is still in the name of Conrad Hunte and Gary Sobers, who added 446 runs. At the same time, Roston Chase and Aamir Jangu have secured second place in this list with a partnership of 401 runs.

Sri Lanka is in danger of defeat

West Indies declared their first innings at 626 runs on the basis of excellent batting by Roston Chase and Aamir Jangu. Under the pressure of a huge score, the Sri Lankan team seems to be struggling and is in danger of losing by an innings.
