Oman Bribery Law: Big decision of Oman government, now if bribe is taken in a private company, there will be jail and heavy fine
The Government of Oman has made major changes to its laws to prevent bribery. Now not only government officers, but also people working in private companies can go to jail for taking or giving bribe. This rule is for all those people who are working in Oman and follow the rules here.

Royal Decree No. Under 36/2023, now criminal cases will be filed against those working in private sector, institutions and international organizations. After the introduction of this law, the accountability of company owners, board members and employees has increased. If any employee or owner asks for or takes bribe, he will have to face severe punishment.
Strict punishment and fine for bribery
The government has prescribed penalties for different types of bribery, which are explained in the table below:
Royal Decree No. Changes have also been made in Article 146 of the Labor Law through 66/2026. According to this, if a worker takes money, gifts or any kind of benefit from anyone without the approval of his employer, he may have to face both jail and heavy fine.
The Government of Oman has also strengthened its fight against corruption internationally. The country is part of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) since 2013. The State Financial and Administrative Audit Institution (SFAAI) is looking after the implementation of these rules.
Courts have imposed heavy fines and prison sentences in several major corruption cases in recent times. The government clearly says that honesty should be maintained in the workplace and no employee should take advantage of his position to earn personal gain.
