Now corruption in Badri-Kedarnath too; Claim based on documents obtained from RTI
New Delhi : Even as the controversy over the alleged donation embezzlement at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya continues, now the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee (BKTC) has also been accused of serious financial misappropriation. Social activist and senior advocate Vikesh Singh Negi has made some shocking claims based on documents obtained through Right to Information (RTI).
According to Negi, some members of the temple committee took lakhs of rupees in less than a year in the name of Travel Allowance (TA) and Daily Allowance (DA). He alleged that the fund was spent from the donations given by the devotees and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
Other serious charges
Negi alleged that some members took allowances by attending various religious functions. He also claimed that a member’s travel bill was cleared even though the accounts department had objected to it. Earlier also he had alleged that the temple fund was spent on the reception of VIP guests and that the vice president of the committee took money by showing his wife as an employee.
The information came to light through RTI
Negi said that according to the Temple Act, members can get allowance only if they travel for official work or meetings of the committee. Accordingly, there is a provision to provide a daily allowance of Rs 6,000 per day and a travel allowance of Rs 4 per kilometer to members like MLAs. However, he claimed that only one official meeting was held after the appointment of the present committee. However, RTI has revealed that some members have taken huge amount of allowances in 8 months.
Personal tours authorized
Negi alleged that some members took allowances by pretending that various religious events and personal tours were official events. According to him, some members also took money from the opening date of Badrinath temple held at Narendranagar on Basant Panchami, presenting it as an official event. In fact, the event is organized according to the tradition of the Tehri royal family, he claimed.
Helicopter expenses for Kedarnath tour from temple funds
He alleged that the cost of helicopters for visits to Kedarnath and other dhams was also paid from temple funds. An attempt was made to know the reaction of Hemant Dwivedi, President of the Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, regarding all these allegations. However, they could not be contacted. Negi clarified that if the side of the committee or the chairman comes forward, it will also be made public.
