Neeraj Ghaywan raised questions of representation on the content of TVF, said a big thing about Panchayat series

This time the reason is not a new series but the statement of film director Neeraj Ghaywan. Film director Neeraj Ghaywan, known for films like Masaan and Homebound, while praising the content of TVF, has also raised questions about its social representation. He believes that all sections of the society do not get enough space in these stories based on the background of villages.

During a podcast, Neeraj Ghaywan said that TVF has made many great and memorable shows which have been liked very much by the audience. However, he also said that he misses the fact that characters from lower caste and Muslim communities are almost not seen in these shows. According to him, when a story is presented as a real picture of the village, then the representation of different sections of the society should also be visible in it.

Neeraj Ghaywan also said that TVF was founded and many of its key creators are among the people who have studied from prestigious educational institutions of the country. In such a situation, there is more responsibility on their shoulders to present the diversity of the society in a balanced manner. He said that if the story of a village is being shown then showing people of only one social class there does not present the complete picture of reality.

Referring specifically to the Panchayat series, he said that if a show is said to be the most authentic story of a village, then the presence of different communities and social groups should also be visible in it. According to him, the social structure of Indian villages is quite diverse and should be shown as such.

Panchayat is counted among the most successful web series of TVF. Its four seasons have been released so far and each season has received a lot of love from the audience. Many characters and dialogues of this series have been very popular on social media also. This is the reason why a separate audience of Panchayat has been created. A new web series related to this world, Gram Chikitsalaya, is also going to be released before the audience soon.

At present, there has been no official response from TVF on Neeraj Ghaywan’s statement. However, after his statement, a new debate has started on the way of representation and storytelling on social media. While one section is supporting Neeraj’s point, many viewers believe that any creator has the freedom to choose his story and characters.
