‘I was jealous of Tabu’; Sonali Kulkarni revealed, the actress got angry after Tabu won the National Award!

She told how she felt when Tabu got the National Award for Best Actress in her place in 1997. Let us tell you that Tabu was given this award for the film ‘Maachis’, while Sonali was also nominated for her role in the film ‘Daira’.
I was jealous of Tabu
Decades later, during an appearance on Screen Spotlight, Sonali revealed that when Tabu received the National Award in her place, she felt that Tabu had won only because she was Shabana Azmi’s niece. Sonali believed that Tabu won the award only because she was the niece of star Shabana Azmi, who had won the National Award five times. “I was jealous of all the people who were winning awards,” he said. She further added, “Every year, my films were considered among the best films in the final round of National Awards and every year I was disappointed. This was the time when I really wanted to win the National Award. I was winning other awards, but what you don’t get is what you desire most.”
Realized my mistake after watching the movie
Sonali said, “I was so angry and jealous of Tabu that I finally watched ‘Maachis’. Watching his films helped me deal with my insecurities and frustrations.” Sonali further said that Tabu’s acting in Maachis was so brilliant that it gave her solace. He said, “Her acting not only brought me joy, but she had so much confidence in it that helped me understand my life and my capabilities. When I watched many of Tabu’s films, including Maachis, Astitva and Chandni Bar, I fell in love with her every time.”
However later, Sonali won the Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards 2002 for Kranti Kanade’s Marathi short film Chaitra. Sonali admitted that her desires have changed a lot over the years and now she is planning to work in a film with Tabu.
