This happened for the first time in Test cricket history after 1877, West Indies’ Aamir Jangu and Roston Chase made a world record.

WI vs SL: In the first Test match being played against Sri Lanka, the pair of West Indies batsman Aamir Jung and captain Roston Chase have achieved a feat which had never happened since 1877, i.e. in the 149-year history of Test cricket. Both the batsmen have created a new world record by making a historic partnership of 401 runs for the sixth wicket. During this partnership, the 10-year-old record of England’s Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes was also broken.

Historic partnership of 401 runs between Aamir Jangu and Roston Chase

The West Indies team was in trouble in the match being played against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Half of the West Indies team returned to the pavilion with a score of 168 runs, but after this, Aamir Jangu and Roston Chase batted brilliantly. Facing 602 balls, both of them made a historic partnership of 401 runs for the sixth wicket. This is the biggest partnership for the sixth wicket in the history of Test cricket.

Records of England’s Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes broken

Earlier this feat was done by Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes of England. Both the star players had made a partnership of 399 runs for the sixth wicket in the Cape Town Test against South Africa in 2016, but now this record has been broken by the West Indies batsmen. The pair of Jangu and Chase went just 2 runs ahead of this record and registered it in their name.

Aamir Jangu hits double century, Roston Chase misses double century

In this first test match, West Indies declared the first innings after scoring 626 runs for 9 wickets. Aamir Jangu batted brilliantly and scored a double century. Let us tell you that Aamir Jangu is playing only his second test match. Jangu played an innings of 233 runs in 373 balls. This is now the highest individual score by West Indies in the history of the World Test Championship i.e. WTC. Whereas Roston Chase missed his double century. He played an innings of 194 runs in 324 balls. Not only this, this partnership of 401 runs is also the second biggest partnership for West Indies in Test history. Earlier, the pair of Conrad Hunte and great all-rounder Gary Sobers had made a partnership of 446 runs for the second wicket against Pakistan in the year 1958.
