Just as water-soaked shoes become chewy, leather hardens and cracks when dried in the sun or in a dryer. There is a bad smell. Rainwater, external bacteria and sweat from the feet combine to make the inside of the shoe one hell of a mess. Even if it doesn’t get wet in the rain, the excess moisture in the air causes the feet to sweat. Dampness accumulates inside the shoes. If you don’t take care of it regularly, the fungus can build up on the shoes. This problem is most common especially in school children’s shoes. But if you know a few home tricks, your favorite leather shoes will remain intact even in monsoons.

what to do

To save leather shoes, it is wise not to take them outside during monsoons. Choose waterproof or rubber shoes instead for going out on the street. But if leather shoes accidentally get wet, they need to be dried quickly. Do not expose the shoes to direct sunlight. It spoils the quality of leather. Instead, keep the shoes in a place where the wind plays. Stuff old newspaper or tissue paper inside the shoe. The paper will absorb excess moisture inside the shoe, keeping the shoe in shape.

(৩) A waterproofing spray or leather conditioner should be used on leather shoes before the onset of monsoon. It forms a protective layer over the skin. As a result, the shoes are not damaged by water, and the leather remains soft.

(৪) If you don’t use the shoes for a long time during the rainy season, don’t leave them in a damp place. Wrap the shoes well and store them in a dry place. You can put silica gel or a piece of charcoal inside the shoe box. It will absorb the moisture inside. As a result, the fungus will not catch, the bad smell will also be removed. This little khattu is enough to increase the life of Sadha’s shoes in monsoons.
