New Delhi: A massive explosion rocked Pakistan’s Karachi on Saturday. It hit the Mosamiat Chowrangi area, after which several gunshots were heard. Following the explosion, armed Pakistan Army and police personnel cordoned off the area.
According to reports, this was a terrorist attack. Pakistani Rangers reportedly killed 6 terrorists in the attack and captured 1 alive. The terror attack targeted the Sindh Rangers security compound in Karachi. Reports said that an explosive-laden vehicle hit the military facility late Saturday night.
This was the first major terror attack in Karachi since October 2024. At least 4 paramilitary personnel died in the attack. Following the attack, the Pakistani security forces released a statement saying that the attackers belonged to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a militant faction of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). They said that the attack happened at around 8:30 pm in the densely populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
The attack lasted for approximately 90 minutes and also involved a gun battle between the security personnel and the terrorists. The Pakistani military personnel then managed to kill 6 terrorists and capture 1 alive. The terrorists captured alive were also injured in the gunfight.
Residents are advised to stay indoors.
During the gun battle, residents in the area were advised to stay indoors. Power outages were also reported in the area. The entire neighbourhood was sealed as the Pakistani rangers engaged in a gun battle with the terrorists.
The terrorist group, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, operates mainly in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and is a faction of the TTP. They have targeted civilians, security personnel and government officials for years now.
The last terrorist attack in Karachi happened in October 2024, where 2 Chinese engineers died. The attack happened near the city’s airport and was claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army.
This particular terror group, the TTP, last carried out a major attack in Karachi in February 2023. At that time, too, they had stormed the Karachi Police Office.
