J&K Police alert before Amarnath Yatra 2026, big mock drill of mountain rescue team at 18 places

Knews Desk– Jammu and Kashmir administration and security agencies are on full alert mode before the start of Amarnath Yatra 2026. To ensure the safety of pilgrims and smooth journey, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday conducted a massive mock drill of Mountain Rescue Team (MRT).

The main objective of this mock drill was to test the preparedness and quick response capability of the security forces in dealing with any emergency situation like terrorist attack, natural disaster, landslide, flood or medical emergency. This exercise was conducted at a total of 18 sensitive places along the Yatra route. It included both the major routes of Pahalgam and Baltal. Besides, security drills were also conducted at important and crowded places like Holy Cave, Panjtarni, Sheshnag and Chandanwadi.

Mountain rescue teams practiced relief and rescue operations during the mock drill. This included taking the injured devotees to safe places, keeping the communication system active, using rescue equipment and rehearsal of the emergency evacuation procedure. Apart from this, better coordination and quick response system between various security agencies was also tested. According to Jammu and Kashmir Police officials, all the teams performed satisfactorily during the exercise and demonstrated their preparations effectively. Officials said the purpose of such exercises is to ensure that immediate and effective action can be taken in case of any unexpected situation during the yatra.

The administration says that every aspect of the security arrangements is being constantly monitored to make the Amarnath Yatra safe, organized and successful. The mock drill is part of a broader preparedness campaign to provide a safe environment to the devotees.

It is noteworthy that the holy journey of Baba Amarnath will start from 3rd July 2026 and it will continue for 57 days and will conclude on 28th August on the day of Rakshabandhan. Security arrangements are being made more stringent in entire Jammu and Kashmir regarding the Yatra. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will flag off the first batch of passengers from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on July 2. The administration claims that this time all necessary steps have been taken to make the journey safer and more organized than before.
