Moving towards achieving carbon neutrality through a multi-track approach
Toyota believes that a single technology cannot be relied upon to meet India’s diverse mobility needs. Instead, a combination of different technologies is required. Battery electric vehicles, strong hybrids, plug-in hybrids, flex-fuels and others all play an important role in reducing carbon on a large scale and replacing fossil fuels.
Reflecting the growing acceptance of electrified mobility solutions by Indian consumers, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has recently reached an important milestone. Total hybrid vehicle sales in India have crossed 3 lakh units. Consolidating its leadership in the hybrid segment, the Urban Cruiser Highrider Hybrid and Innova Highcross Hybrid recently crossed the 2 lakh unit sales mark. This underlines the strong consumer confidence in self-charging hybrid electric vehicle technology. The Urban Cruiser Highrider has been a key factor in Toyota’s growth. It has maintained a steady pace in the domestic market and is also receiving enthusiastic response in the international markets in the Middle East and Africa.
Along with the Hirider Hybrid and Innova HighCross Hybrid, the Wellfire Hybrid and Camry Hybrid are also driving wider adoption of Toyota’s electrified mobility solutions. Another milestone in the electrification journey is Toyota’s recent launch of its first battery electric vehicle in India, the Urban Cruiser ABELLA E3. Its ex-showroom price starts from 23.60 lakhs (ex-showroom). This reinforces Toyota’s multi-pronged commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
