Big change in LPG and PNG rules: New KYC and booking rules will be applicable from July 1

Knews Desk- Many important rules are going to change for LPG and PNG consumers across the country from July 1, 2026. The government and oil marketing companies have taken this step to make the gas distribution system more transparent, secure and digital. The new rules will have a direct impact on crores of domestic and commercial consumers.

Under the new system, it will now be mandatory for consumers to complete the e-KYC process to continue gas connection and get subsidy. Consumers who have not updated their KYC within the prescribed time limit may have their subsidy stopped or gas delivery disrupted. The government aims to eliminate fake connections and deliver subsidies to genuine beneficiaries. Along with this, the rules for gas cylinder booking have also been changed. Now after booking one cylinder, the next cylinder will not be able to be booked before the minimum stipulated time limit. Apart from this, OTP based verification has also been made mandatory at the time of delivery, so that delivery of the cylinder can be ensured only to the genuine customer.

New rules have also been implemented for PNG (Piped Natural Gas) users. In areas where PNG network is available, consumers are being instructed to gradually shift to piped gas. The government believes that this will reduce dependence on LPG and make the energy system more environment friendly. e-KYC has also been made mandatory for the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana. If the process is not completed on time, there will be a possibility of the subsidy being stopped. Besides, digital booking and mobile number linking is also being strengthened so that any kind of fraud can be prevented.

According to government sources, the main objective of these changes is to make the gas distribution system more secure, transparent and technically strong. Although consumers may face some difficulties in the initial phase, in the long run this system will prove to be more effective and convenient.
