Army chief designate Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth awarded Uttam Yudh Seva medal by president Murmu
Army Chief designate Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth was conferred the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM) by President Draupadi Murmu during the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase 2) held in New Delhi on Monday.
The prestigious military decoration was presented by the President, who serves as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, at the ceremonial function organised to honour distinguished service by personnel of the Indian Armed Forces.
Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth received the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal in recognition of his distinguished service of an exceptional order during the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Uttam Yudh Seva Medal is one of India’s highest wartime distinguished service decorations. It is awarded to members of the Armed Forces for exceptional service during conflict, war or hostilities, recognising outstanding operational leadership and performance.
The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, defence officials and dignitaries. President Murmu presented gallantry and distinguished service awards to personnel from the Army, Navy and Air Force for their exemplary contributions to national security and military operations.
Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, who has been designated as the next Chief of the Army Staff, joins the list of senior military commanders honoured for their distinguished service to the nation.
The Defence Investiture Ceremony is conducted annually to recognise acts of gallantry, exceptional leadership and distinguished service across the three services. Awards presented during the ceremony acknowledge operational excellence, professional dedication and contributions to strengthening India’s defence preparedness.
The Uttam Yudh Seva Medal ranks among the country’s highest distinguished service awards for operational service and is conferred on officers whose leadership and performance have significantly contributed to military operations.
The investiture ceremony underscored the nation’s recognition of the commitment and professionalism demonstrated by members of the Armed Forces in safeguarding India’s security and strategic interests.
