Stuffed with football: HCMC cafe’s teddy army draws fans to World Cup matches
Me Coffee Shop in Ho Chi Minh City is in World Cup fever and has decorated its building and cafe with more than 1,000 plush bears wearing football jerseys.
Footage filmed on Sunday shows teddy bears packed across the venue, many in football-themed outfits. Statues of Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi stand outside, where visitors stop for photos before heading in to watch matches on large screens.
“I found the cafe’s decor very nice, it attracted a lot of young people, and they broadcast live football matches, so I came here to watch,” visitor Huyen Nhu said.

The eye-catching display took weeks to prepare, but the effort appears to have paid off. The World Cup theme has boosted business and turned the cafe into a late-night stop for football fans.
“During the World Cup, our restaurant is open 24/7 and broadcasts all 104 matches of the tournament,” the owner said. “When I switched to this World Cup-themed decoration idea, I noticed a 50-70% increase in customers.”
The 2026 World Cup is being hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is the first edition with 48 teams and 104 matches, giving fans across Asia plenty of late-night and early hours fixtures to follow because of the time difference.
