Common dishwasher mistakes that leave dishes dirty and how to fix it

If you have ever opened your dishwasher after a cycle only to find your dishes still dirty, you’re not alone. However, it may come down to a few common mistakes many people don’t realise they’re making.

According to Bosch a leading global technology and home appliance brand, the issue can often be resolved with a few simple adjustments. So before you search Amazon for a new machine or call out an engineer, it’s worth checking to see if you can fix the issue yourself.

One reason might be that the tablet tray is blocked. Make sure the dispenser and tablet tray are clean, then place the tablet flat instead of upright.

If something blocks the tray, like a saucepan handle, the tablet might not dissolve properly. If there is no blockage, then the spray arms may not be working correctly.

It explains: “The dishwasher relies on the spray arms for adequate water distribution. Ensure that the spray arms rotate freely and that there are no signs of cracks or damage.

“Check if the nozzles are blocked – if food deposits have blocked the nozzles, you will need to detach the spray arms and thoroughly clean out the holes and bearings on the spray arms so that water flow is not obstructed.”

The third option is checking the water pressure and temperature. The experts explain: “If your appliance is not sufficiently filling with water or the water pressure is too low, the dishwasher tablet will fail to dissolve fully, or at all. Ensure that the connection is not kinked, crushed or twisted.”

If you notice that your dishwasher is not filling with water, you should book an engineer to come and fix it.

It adds: “If the appliance is not heating the water properly, then the dishwasher tablet will not fully dissolve. Use a higher temperature setting to see if the tablet dissolves”. Like the water pressure, if there is an issue with the temperature, you should book an engineer visit.
