Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, a new work culture of water conservation, water management and cooperation among the states has developed in the country. Like projects like Narmada Project, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ken-Betwa Link Project and Ram Jal Setu Link, Yamuna Water Project is also the result of this visionary thinking.

He said that the Prime Minister clearly believes that ‘water is not just a natural resource, but the foundation of life, development and prosperity of the coming generations.’ This thinking became the driving force of this historic agreement.

Expressing special gratitude to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the Chief Minister said that he made the solution of this complex issue possible by becoming a bridge of trust, dialogue and coordination between the two states. Amit Shah played an important role in building consensus between the two states by taking personal interest at each stage. As a result of his guidance and continuous efforts, this issue which was pending for three decades could reach a historical consensus.

He also praised the technical and administrative leadership ability of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and said that with the active cooperation of the Ministry, all the necessary processes of the project were speeded up in a timely manner.

The Chief Minister said that the double engine government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi has proved that even projects pending for decades can be successfully completed through political will, Centre-State coordination and timely decisions. He said that Ram Jal Setu Link Project for Eastern Rajasthan, Jal Jeevan Mission and now Yamuna Water Project are excellent examples of this.

Under the Yamuna Water Project, 577 MCM of Rajasthan’s share of Yamuna water will be transported from Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana to Hansiyawas Reservoir in Churu district through about 295.5 km long underground pipeline system. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 34,102 crore.

Under the project, three underground pipelines of 3.6 meter diameter, inspection road, artificial reservoir and modern water management system will be developed. Under the project, a provision has been made to provide drinking water at ten places in Haryana, due to which this project will prove to be equally beneficial for both the states.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the project has been prepared by the Rajasthan Government and uploaded on the e-PAMS portal of the Central Water Commission. Along with this, Haryana has also given in-principle approval to the pipeline alignment. Rajasthan Haryana Yamuna Water Project-SPV (RHYW-SPV) will be formed for the construction and operation of the project.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that this historic initiative, started under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will ensure water security for the coming generations of Rajasthan and will provide new momentum to the social, economic and industrial development of the water stressed areas of the state including Shekhawati.
