Internet connections in the country crossed 109 crores, 6.4 crore new connections added in 3 months

The digital revolution is progressing rapidly in India’s telecom sector. According to the latest report of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the number of internet users in the country has increased to more than 109.27 crore (1092.79 million). In the last quarter i.e. December 2025, this figure was 102.86 crores. This means that in just three months, about 6.41 crore new internet connections have been added in the country. This represents a quarterly growth of 6.24%.

 

According to this report, the number of telephone users in India has increased to 133.05 crore. Now tele-density in the country has also increased to 93.26%. This report of TRAI clearly shows that mobile and broadband have now become an essential part of the everyday life of Indian people.

Record data consumption every month

According to the report, out of total 109.27 crore internet users, 106.58 crore people are using only broadband service. Today, on an average a mobile user in the country is spending about 26.70 GB data every month. Due to availability of cheap internet, the total consumption of wireless data in the country has reached 77,953 petabytes (PB) in this quarter.

 

There were a total of 100.73 crore users of broadband internet at the end of December 2025, which increased to 106.58 crore by the end of March 2026. That means it has increased by about 5.81%. At the same time, the number of narrowband internet users has also increased. It was 2.12 crore at the end of December 2025, which increased to 2.69 crore by the end of March 2026. A huge increase of about 26.62% has been seen in this.

Internet is rapidly reaching villages also

The figures of the report show that there is a big difference between cities and villages in the country. Tele-density in urban areas has reached 151.47%, while in rural areas it is still only 60.46%. Similarly, the number of internet users per 100 people is 126.80% in cities, while it is only 48.31% in villages. This means that internet usage in villages is still low, but there is a lot of potential for growth.

 

According to the report, 65.19 crore internet users in the country are in urban areas, while 44.08 crore people use internet in rural areas. It is clear from this that internet is spreading rapidly in villages but there is still a huge gap compared to cities.

This is how the earnings of companies increased

There has also been improvement in the earnings and financial condition of telecom companies. The average monthly revenue per customer (ARPU) from wireless services has increased to Rs 196.04. The special thing is that the average monthly earning from prepaid customers was Rs 196.22, which is more than the earning of Rs 194.31 from postpaid customers. At the same time, the total earnings of the telecom sector increased to Rs 1,05,118 crore in this quarter.
