New Delhi: According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Ashadh has started from today i.e. 30th June. This month is considered very important not only from religious point of view but also from nature and health point of view. With the arrival of Ashadha, a major change in the weather begins. The intense heat gradually begins to subside and the rainy season arrives. Due to this, humidity increases in the environment and the body takes time to adapt to the new weather.

According to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Ashadh will start from 30th June and will continue till 29th July. Ashadh is considered the fourth month of the year in the Hindu calendar. It comes after Chaitra, Vaishakh and Jyeshtha. The name of this month has been kept on the basis of Purvashadha or Uttarashadha Nakshatra falling on the full moon day. According to religious beliefs, the month of Ashadha is considered best for special worship of Lord Vishnu, Sun God and Mother Durga. It is said that chanting, penance, charity and worship done with devotion during this period brings blessings from God and increases the chances of fulfillment of wishes. For this reason it is also called the month of wish fulfillment.

The month of Ashadha indicates change in weather. At this time the effect of heat starts reducing and the rainy season begins. The month of Ashadh is full of religious events. In this month, the famous Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out, in which lakhs of devotees participate. This yatra is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra and is considered to have special religious significance. Gupt Navratri also falls in this month. This nine-day festival is considered very important for Shakti Sadhana and Goddess worship. Many seekers perform special rituals and worship during this time.

Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashadha Shukla Paksha also falls in this month. According to religious belief, on this day Lord Vishnu goes into Yoga Nidra and the period of Chaturmas begins for the next four months. During this period, marriage, house warming and other auspicious functions are generally postponed. The festival of Guru Purnima is celebrated at the end of the month. This day is considered the most important occasion to express respect, gratitude and reverence towards the Guru.
