FIFA World Cup: Cape Verde team’s troubles increase, serious allegation of rape made against this player, police busy investigating the case
Ryan Mendes, the captain of the Cape Verde team which is performing brilliantly in the FIFA World Cup 2026, has been accused of serious rape. The team has reached the Round of 32, where it will take on Argentina on July 04. But before that the team captain seems to be in serious trouble.
According to media reports, the matter is of March 2026, when the Cape Verde team went to New Zealand to play the FIFA series. On that tour, a woman from Brazil had joined the team as a translator. Translator woman alleges that Ryan Mendes forced himself into her room at an Auckland hotel and physically and sexually assaulted her.
After the incident, a report was given to the local police, after which a medical examination was also conducted. According to Brazilian media reports, the medical report found injury marks on the body. Apart from this, injury marks were found on vagina, breasts and lips. The report also said that the woman informed some officials associated with the Cape Verde team about the incident, but there was no response from them. At present the New Zealand Police is investigating the matter. The allegation has not been officially proven yet.
What did FIFA say on the matter?
FIFA’s reaction was also seen on this incident. According to sources, FIFA said, “We take any wrongdoing seriously. New Zealand authorities are in contact with this matter. The investigation is ongoing, so no further comment can be made.”
It is worth noting that no statement of any kind has been issued by the Cape Verde Football Association on this matter.
