When will your children’s schools be closed in the month of July?
New Delhi: Schools are opening across the country from 1st July i.e. Wednesday. Summer vacations officially ended on June 30. There are no major national public holidays in July that would result in long school holidays. However, regional holidays in some states may impact school schedules.
List of school holidays in July 2026
In July, schools will remain closed only on weekends and selected regional holidays. Students will get regular weekend holidays, as well as holidays declared by the state administration related to heatwave or any other reason. Some schools or institutions may grant holidays on local or religious occasions depending on their academic calendar. Important festivals/days occurring in this month are as follows:
July 16, 2026: Rath Yatra (observed as a restricted holiday in some states and territories) July 16 may be a holiday to commemorate the Rath Yatra. These holidays can take place in many states including Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha.
29th July 2026: There may be a holiday in Bihar, UP, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh on 29th July on Guru Purnima.
July 31, 2026: Shaheed Udham Singh Martyrdom Day (commonly observed as a holiday in Punjab, Haryana and some neighboring regions)
Apart from these occasions, there are no major national holidays in July 2026. Schools in many parts of the country are expected to run as per their regular time-table. Knowing the school vacation schedule in advance can help parents better organize their family plans after the long summer vacations.
This appeal to parents
Education departments across the country have appealed to parents and students to stay informed through their schools and government announcements. If extreme heat conditions continue, state governments may adjust school schedules, reduce class time, or implement additional safety measures to protect students from extreme heat and ensure a safe learning environment.
