Shahrukh Khan inaugurates new cricket stadium in LA, thanks Jay Shah for support
Read Desk. Taking an important step towards the global expansion of cricket, Knight Riders Group has officially opened the doors of its new international stadium in the US. The historic opening of the new Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Los Angeles took place on Wednesday with the first Major League Cricket (MLC) match between Los Angeles Knight Riders and Washington Freedom.
This specially built stadium at Fairplex Pomona is a major achievement in terms of infrastructure. With this, Knight Riders has become the first global franchise brand to build its own international-standard cricket stadium abroad.
Celebrating the special occasion, Bollywood superstar and Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan thanked the key administrators of the game who helped make his long-cherished dream come true. Khan also mentioned the institutional support that made this massive project possible. He expressed special gratitude to BCCI Secretary Jai Shah and International Cricket Council (ICC).
Shahrukh Khan said in his social media post, “What started as a dream has become a reality today.”
“This place is not just built for sports, but also for entertainment, families and creating memories that will last forever.
“Special thanks to Jaybhai (@JayShah220988) who has been so helpful on this journey. Also thanks to @ICC and Sanjog Gupta for their immense support. This is for LA, for cricket fans around the world and for the Knight Riders family. Keep believing in the Purple and Gold.”
great facility
Built as per international standards, this stadium includes a large main square with eight natural turf wickets, six massive 120 feet high floodlight towers for showing night matches and an arena built by removing more than 32,000 metric tons of soil.
Speaking at the launch, Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore said the facility shows a strong intent for the future of the sport in America. This stadium will host an amazing week of MLC matches from 1st July to 5th July. This will establish Southern California as a major cricket hub ahead of the sport’s inclusion in the LA28 Olympic Games.
While results on the field will be up and down – like the home side suffered a crushing six-wicket defeat at the hands of a disciplined Washington Freedom team in the opening match – the structure put in place by the franchise promises to deliver good results in the long run.
