Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: ‘He would have taken off his pants…’ Ravi Shastri crossed limits in live show, forgot decorum on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s question
Vaibhav got a place in the Indian T20 team for the tour of Ireland and England. However, he has not got a chance to play even a single match till now. In both the T20s against Ireland and the first match against England, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson opened the innings, while Vaibhav remained on the bench the entire time.
Vaibhav should have got a chance in Ireland: Shastri
In a conversation on Sony Sports Network before the first T20 match against England, Ravi Shastri openly expressed his opinion on the team selection. He said, ‘Hey, he should have played against Ireland. The wicket was slow, the field was small. He used to thrash the bowlers fiercely. He definitely should have got a chance there.
‘It is not right to make Vaibhav sit on the bench’
Shastri further said that he is not sure whether he will get a chance in England or not. However, he clearly said that Vaibhav should get a chance to play for the Indian team as soon as possible. He reminded that in the IPL, this young batsman batted fearlessly against almost every big fast bowler and performed brilliantly. Keeping such a player on the bench continuously is not the right decision.
Shastri described Vaibhav as India’s ‘X-factor’. He says that at the age of just 15, he would have played without any pressure. If his bat works in the first two-three overs, he can give the team an explosive start, which the middle order can easily take advantage of. India still has to play four more T20 matches on the England tour. In such a situation, now everyone’s eyes will be on that when Vaibhav Suryavanshi finally gets a chance in the playing eleven of the Indian team.
Interestingly, India suffered a 2-0 defeat in the T20 series against Ireland. This was the first time that Ireland won a T20 series against India. Despite this, Shastri did not back down from his statement and reiterated that Vaibhav can make a big difference for the team.
Vaibhav was recently the captain of India who won the Under-19 World Cup. He played a memorable inning of 175 runs in the final. After this, his bat also performed well in IPL 2026. He won the Orange Cap by scoring 776 runs and became the youngest player to do so.
