Man demanding extortion of Rs 25 lakh from retired employee arrested
Patna/Nadi: In Nadi police station area of Patna district, the police has quickly solved the case of demanding extortion of Rs 25 lakh from a retired person and threatening to kill and kidnap his grandson if the amount is not paid and arrested the main accused. An illegal child has also been detained in the case. Police have also recovered the mobile phone used in the incident and the stolen SIM card.
According to the police, Shivchandra Rai, resident of Jethuli village of Nadi police station area, who retired from Mizoram Police about a month ago, received a call from an unknown number on the mobile phone of his son Rajan Kumar on June 22, demanding extortion of Rs 25 lakh. The criminals threatened that if the money was not given, Shivchandra Rai would be murdered and his grandson would also be kidnapped and murdered while going to school.
After this, on July 1, the accused again sent a threatening message through WhatsApp. In the message, if Rs 25 lakh was not paid by the next day, a threat was given to kidnap the son and demand a ransom of Rs 50 lakh and to kill him if the ransom was not received.
Considering the seriousness of the incident, case number 265/2026 was registered in Nadi police station and a special team was formed under the leadership of the police station incharge. On the basis of technical and human investigation, the police successfully cracked the case and arrested Sanjeev Kumar Rai (39 years), resident of Jethuli. Besides, an illegal child was also detained.
During the raid, the police recovered the mobile phone of Vivo company used in the incident and the stolen SIM card of Airtel. The police are now trying to find out how the accused obtained the stolen SIM and who are the other people involved in this conspiracy.
Police said that further legal action is underway in the matter and the entire network is being investigated.

Officers included in the raid team: Police sub-inspector Saddam Hussain, police sub-inspector Vivek Kumar, assistant sub-inspector Santosh Kumar, women armed force, home guard and district force personnel of Nadi police station were involved in the raid operation under the leadership of the police station chief.
