Increasing risk of cerebral malaria in Jharkhand, number of infected reaches 150 with 9 new patients found
Ranchi: The cases of cerebral malaria are continuously increasing in Potka block of East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. According to the latest data of the Health Department, after the confirmation of infection in nine new patients, the total number of infected people has reached around 150 in the last one week. In view of the increasing cases, the district administration and health department have intensified the monitoring and investigation campaign.
Malaria confirmed in 150 people
According to officials, from June 24 till now, blood samples of about 3,000 people were tested in Potka block. During investigation, cerebral malaria has been confirmed in about 150 people. Nine new cases that have emerged recently have further increased the concern of the health department.
Let us tell you, health officials say that most of the cases have been reported from Kandar and Hitbasa villages. Medical teams are continuously setting up camps in these areas and examining people. Along with this, medicines are being provided to the patients, mosquito nets are being distributed and people are also being informed about measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
What is cerebral malaria?
At present, nine patients suffering from cerebral malaria are admitted in the hospital of Potka block. At the same time, 45 other patients are undergoing treatment in Sadar Hospital, Jamshedpur. Doctors are constantly monitoring the condition of serious patients. Cerebral malaria is considered to be the most serious form of malaria. It is caused by infection with the Plasmodium falciparum parasite, which can directly affect the brain. If timely treatment is not received, the patient may suffer serious problems like unconsciousness, coma or permanent brain damage. Therefore, it is very important to seek medical advice immediately when initial symptoms appear.
four deaths so far
Meanwhile, since last week till now four children have died due to cerebral malaria. After these deaths, the Health Department has given instructions to take special vigilance in the affected villages. The district administration says that continuous surveys, investigations and awareness campaigns are being conducted to prevent the spread of infection. People have been appealed to reach the nearest health center without delay if they notice fever, severe headache, fainting or other suspicious symptoms, so that treatment can be started in time and a serious situation can be avoided.
