Strong flow in Jabalpur: Bolero washed away while crossing drain, driver dies, 3 people rescued
A sad news has come out from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh amid continuous rains. Despite the high flow of water in the erosion drain of Belkheda police station area, the Bolero vehicle was trying to cross the drain. Meanwhile, the vehicle went out of control and was swept away in the strong current. There were four people in the Bolero, out of which three were rescued safely, while the driver died due to drowning.
According to preliminary information, this Bolero was associated with a liquor company. The driver did not correctly estimate the depth and flow of water in the drain. As soon as the vehicle reached the middle of the drain, the strong flow of water engulfed it.
As soon as information about the accident was received, police, administration and local people immediately started relief and rescue operations. After much effort, three people were taken out safely, but the driver Ravi Pillai, resident of Cantt, could not be saved. The police have started investigating the case by sending the body for post-mortem.
Why is crossing a drain in the rain becoming fatal?
During monsoon, small bridges, bridges and drains in many districts of Madhya Pradesh suddenly become vulnerable to strong currents. Sometimes it is difficult to estimate the actual depth and flow of water. This is the reason why many people lose their lives in such accidents every year. Experts say even just a few inches of fast flowing water can throw a vehicle off balance, especially when the road is completely submerged in water.
The administration continuously appeals to the people that if water is flowing over any bridge, ramp or drain, then they should not try to cross it at all. It is safe to wait for a few minutes, because nothing is more important than life in a hurry. This incident in Jabalpur is also being considered a sad example of this negligence. Police have appealed to the people to follow the warnings of the Meteorological Department and the local administration so that such accidents can be avoided.
Effect of rain in many states including Madhya Pradesh
Apart from Jabalpur, heavy rain and storm also affected life in Pachor in Rajgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. Many roads were flooded and some vehicles started floating in the strong current. Local people tried to pull out the vehicles safely with the help of ropes. Due to continuous rains, normal life has been affected in many areas.
The effect of monsoon is clearly visible in other states of the country also. Many accidents have occurred due to heavy rains in Mumbai, while flood-like situations have arisen in some parts of Assam. In such weather, the administration is advising people not to travel unnecessarily, avoid waterlogged roads and be cautious near rivers and streams.
Meteorologists say that during continuous rains the water level can rise suddenly, so the safest option is to avoid using any risky route. The Jabalpur incident once again reminds us that even a little caution during the monsoon season can avert a major accident.
