Indian leaders reached Iran! Mehbooba Mufti and Salman Khurshid will attend Khamenei’s funeral
New Delhi: Several Indian political leaders and government representatives have left for Tehran to attend the state funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. The Iranian Embassy in India gave this information by sharing pictures on X. In the pictures, the Indian delegation is seen paying tribute before leaving.
Mehbooba Mufti received a special invitation
The delegation includes PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Congress leader and Foreign Affairs Department chief Salman Khurshid. Mehbooba Mufti left from New Delhi on Thursday evening to attend the funeral ceremonies starting on July 4.
He is the only non-Shia political leader from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to be invited by Iran for the state event. His presence is considered important.
India’s official delegation also leaves
India’s official delegation left from Delhi on Friday. Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (retd) Syed Ata Hasnain will represent India at the funeral of the late Iranian leader.
Funeral started in Grand Mosala
The first phase of funerals began Friday at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosque, according to Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV. Foreign dignitaries, religious leaders and senior officials gathered here to pay homage.
The bodies of Ayatollah Khamenei and those killed along with him were brought to the Grand Moselle on Friday morning. They were placed in the main prayer hall before the official ceremony. Iran’s state news agency IRNA confirmed the arrival of the coffin on Telegram.
Representatives of Indonesia-Afghanistan also arrived
Press TV reported that several foreign delegations attended the inauguration ceremony. The first international visitors to offer condolences included religious scholars and cultural representatives from Indonesia and Afghanistan.
Representatives of Iran’s officially recognized religious minority communities also took part in the ceremony. This reflects the widespread domestic and international participation in state funerals. As the celebrations begin, Indian political leaders and official representatives are also reaching Tehran.
