Pakistan: Horrific road accident, overloaded bus fell into ditch; 40 passengers died
New Delhi. A horrific road accident took place in Pakistan on Friday morning. A speeding passenger bus fell into a deep gorge near the border of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The driver had lost control of the bus. At least 40 people died in this accident, while 8 others were seriously injured.
According to Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind, the accident occurred in Dana Sar area. The bus was going at a high speed on the highway, when the driver lost control and the bus fell off the road into a deep ditch filled with stones.
Officials said that the bus was already filled with passengers. Apart from this, the passengers of another bus which broke down on the way were also boarded in the same bus, due to which the vehicle was filled beyond its capacity. In the initial investigation, overloading is considered to be the major reason for the accident. The rescue team has reached the spot and is carrying out the rescue operation.
According to the report, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed the officials to provide best treatment to the injured.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also expressed grief over the accident and directed the administration to speed up relief and rescue operations and leave no stone unturned in the treatment of the injured.
Bad roads, weak adherence to traffic rules and careless driving often become the causes of major road accidents in Pakistan. Especially in hilly areas, such accidents keep coming to light. Earlier in the month of May also, a minibus collided with a standing bus in north-western Pakistan, in which 17 people died and 5 were injured.
