    security situation in the country

Syria’s new rulers have been waging a sustained campaign against Islamic State (IS) extremists since taking power in December 2024 by ousting the Assad regime. President Ahmed al-Sharaa has promised to protect people of all religions and communities. They have re-established government control over a large part of the country. However, there are still security challenges in completely stabilizing the country. Security agencies often raid extremist hideouts, but incidents like the suicide attack on a church in July 2025 have created fear in the minds of people. The government is still trying to deal with these threats.
