PM Modi inaugurates Jodhpur’s modern airport terminal, prepared at a cost of Rs 480 crore

An important step was taken for the aviation sector of the country on Saturday in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new state-of-the-art terminal building of Jodhpur Airport. On the same occasion, he also launched the revised ‘UDAN’ (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, which aims to expand air services to remote areas of the country and give new impetus to regional connectivity.

This initiative will not only make air travel easier, but is also expected to provide huge benefits to tourism, trade and the local economy.

Inspected the new terminal before inauguration

After reaching the airport, the Prime Minister did a detailed inspection of the new terminal building. During this, Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu and Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed him about the modern facilities and design of the terminal. After the inspection, the Prime Minister formally inaugurated the new building.

Modern terminal built at a cost of Rs 480 crore

The new terminal of Jodhpur Airport has been built at a cost of approximately Rs 480 crore. Spread over an area of ​​more than 23 thousand square meters, this building will be capable of handling the movement of about 20 lakh passengers annually. For the convenience of passengers, facilities like modern check-in system, spacious waiting room, better security system, digital services and smooth passenger movement have been provided in the terminal. This will provide a better experience to domestic travelers as well as those traveling for tourism and business.

Confluence of traditional architecture and green technology

The biggest feature of the new terminal is its architecture, in which the cultural identity of Rajasthan has been combined with modern construction style. A glimpse of traditional arches, windows and local architectural style can be seen in the design of the building.

Apart from this, keeping in mind the environmental protection, energy efficient technologies, rain water conservation and green construction standards have been adopted. The terminal is targeted to be developed with a 5-star GRIHA rating, making it an example of eco-friendly infrastructure.

Revised UDAN scheme will increase regional connectivity

During the program, the Prime Minister also launched the revised UDAN scheme. A provision of Rs 28,840 crore has been made for this scheme. The government aims to connect more and more cities and remote areas of the country with air network in the next ten years.

Under this scheme, air travel will be made more accessible to the common people by expanding air services in small cities and less developed areas.

100 new airports and 200 helipads will be developed

Under the new scheme, a target has been set to develop 100 new airports by making better use of unused and under-utilized airstrips across the country. An amount of more than Rs 12,000 crore has been earmarked for this.

Also, financial assistance of more than Rs 2,500 crore will be provided for the initial operation and maintenance of regional airports. It is also planned to develop 200 modern helipads to ensure better access to remote and hilly areas.

Tourism and employment will get a boost

Experts believe that the new terminal of Jodhpur Airport and the revised UDAN scheme together will create new opportunities for tourism, investment and employment in the entire country including Rajasthan. Better air connectivity will strengthen industries, business activities and local economy. Also, this initiative can prove to be important in connecting small cities with the national aviation network.
