Nepal: Emphasis on strengthening border security system, preparation to rebuild police structure

Kathmandu. Nepal’s Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that strengthening border security and improving the police structure are among the priorities of the government.

Gurung, who is on a visit to take stock of the security situation in the India-Nepal border area, told reporters at Biratnagar airport that the government is also preparing to reconstruct dilapidated police office buildings across the country.

He is aware of the poor condition of the police structure in many districts. He believes that improvement in physical facilities is very important to make the police organization more effective.

The Home Minister said that the security agencies are actively working to further strengthen the border security. The Home Ministry is paying special attention to curbing smuggling, enhancing security surveillance in border areas and strengthening coordination among security agencies.

The Government is taking necessary steps to control illegal cross-border activities and strengthen peace and security in the border areas.
