META Update- META responded after government strictness, it is a matter of children’s safety

The reason for which has been raised after the news of finding objectionable advertisements on Instagram. The matter came to light when a BBC investigation revealed that paid advertisements were being shown on Instagram which contained words like “child video”. These advertisements used to send users to Telegram channels, where illegal and obscene content related to children is alleged to be sold.

Government summoned Meta

Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav directed officials of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to summon Meta. The government has sought clarification from the company regarding the appearance of such advertisements on Instagram and the steps being taken to prevent such incidents in future.

Meta’s zero-tolerance policy

Meta has again said that it does not allow any content related to sexual exploitation of children on its platform. The company also prohibits advertisements that promote or facilitate such illegal activities.
