Inauguration of India’s third semiconductor plant in Sanand: PM Modi said – ‘Whatever India decides to do, it shows it’
Another major achievement has been achieved in the direction of making India a global semiconductor hub. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) Facility in Sanand, Gujarat. With this, commercial production of chip packaging officially started in the country’s third semiconductor plant.
‘Whatever India decides to do, it accomplishes it’
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Modi said that this project is a symbol of India’s confidence and technological capability. He said, “Five years ago we had resolved to make India a semiconductor hub. Today the vision of ‘Design in India’ and ‘Make in India’ is getting new strength. Whatever India decides to do, it delivers.”
Just one and a half year journey from foundation stone to production
The Prime Minister said that he had laid the foundation stone of this plant in the year 2024. The testing chip work started here in August 2025 and now its commercial production has started. He credited this achievement to all the engineers, technical experts and employees associated with the project.
Model of India-Japan-Thailand partnership
PM Modi said that this plant of CG Semi is not just an industrial project, but a strong example of technology, trust and strategic partnership between India, Japan and Thailand. He said this will give a new impetus to India’s semiconductor journey and strengthen the country’s role in the global supply chain.
Production of 20 crore chips every year, target 500 crore
The Prime Minister informed that this plant will produce 20 crore chips every year in the initial phase. The company has set a target of increasing it to 500 crore chips per year in future. He expressed confidence that this target will be achieved soon and this will give new impetus to Semicon India Programme.
The Next Step of the Electronics Revolution: Semiconductors
The Prime Minister said that the expansion of the semiconductor industry in India did not happen suddenly, but is the next phase of the electronics revolution that has taken place in the last decade. “First products, then components and now semiconductors—India is developing the entire value chain of electronics. This is the next phase of Vikas Bharat and Make in India,” he said.
India becomes the world’s second largest mobile manufacturer
In his address, PM Modi said that India has today become the world’s second largest mobile manufacturer and second largest mobile exporter. He said that compared to 2014, the country’s electronics production has increased almost 7 times, while electronics exports have increased 11 times. He said that this new achievement in the semiconductor sector will prove to be an important milestone towards making India a global electronics and hi-tech manufacturing hub.
