The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2026 season has kicked off with a fresh wave of excitement, as franchises like Kovai Kings and Madurai Panthers introduced revamped identities, signalling a new era for the popular domestic T20 competition. Alongside the visual rebranding — including updated jerseys, logos and team positioning — franchises are also focusing on strengthening their squads through a highly competitive player auction.
The auction, held in Chennai ahead of the new season, saw intense bidding wars among all eight franchises. A total of over 700 players entered the auction pool, reflecting the growing scale and popularity of the league. Teams carefully balanced their retained core with new additions, aiming to build well-rounded squads for the upcoming campaign.
One of the standout moments of the auction was the emergence of Ashwanth Valthapa as one of the most expensive picks. He was snapped up by Chepauk Super Gillies for a significant ₹14.45 lakh, making him one of the top buys of the season. His signing underlines how TNPL continues to attract both domestic and overseas Tamil-origin talent.
Madurai Panthers, who retained a compact core group before the auction, entered the bidding with a strong purse and clear strategy to reinforce key areas.
